Cat Kicker Toy Crochet Pattern

I don't know about you all but my Winnie LOVES kicker toys. Ever since she was a kitten she loved kicking the toys that were big enough to kick. I finally decided to make her her own kicker toy rather than buying one. I'm guilty for hoarding yarn and not always using it, as I'm sure many of you are too! This kicker toy is the perfect small item to make to start using up my leftover stash. It's also a great last minute gift that takes around an hour to put together!
MATERIALS
Around 100-200 yds of #3-#4 weight yarn
Corresponding hook based on your yarn (I used #4 weight yarn and 4.5mm hook)
Scissors
Needle
Polyfil/stuffing or catnip
ABBREVIATIONS
CH: Chain
SL ST: Slip Stitch
SC: Single Crochet
Note Loop and CH are the same thing.
Foundation: make a slip knot and CH4. (Photo 1)

ROUND 1: SC in the second CH from your hook. SC until the end of the row. In the slip knot loop, SC5. (Photo 2) SC in the back loops of the foundation CH until the end of the row. In the last back loop CH, SC5. (Photo 3) SL ST into the first SC. CH2.

ROUND 2: SC in the same stitch you SL ST in. SC until the end of the row. SL ST into the CH. CH2.
ROUND 3: SC until the end of the row. SL ST into the CH. CH2. (Photo 4)

Repeat round 3 until you reach your desired length.
If you want to add eyes near the top of the toy, mark off the two ST's you want to be eyes. Like this: (Photo 5)

To create an eye with yarn, pull a black loop of yarn through a SC with a ST marker. Then to finish off the SC, switch back to the body color. (Photo 6)

Do one more SC row. (Photo 7)

After this row, SC the first two SC together. (Photo 8) On the opposite side SC those side SC together. (Photo 9) Then SC until the end of the row. SL ST in the first SC of this row. Finish off.

CHICK DETAILS
BEAK: make a slip knot loop. CH3. DC in the slip knot loop. CH1, cut and pull your yarn through. Be sure to leave a couple inches so you can use this yarn strand to sew the beak onto the body.

Sew the beak on where you please.
Stuff the toy with catnip or stuffing.
Sew the top of the toy together and weave in that end!
Toss it to your cat and watch them enjoy it!
